NordDRG ICD+ and NCSP+ platforms

The Nordic Casemix Centre maintains the backbone classification systems, NCSP+ and ICD+, enabling the linkage of national ICD-10 and NCSP versions, along with their modifications. In addition, in some national versions the ATC codes are used and the codes are linked to ATC+ classification.  As of January 2024, the ATC codes are part of ICD-10 and NCSP classifications.

The linkage of national codes to backbone classification codes is crucial because NordDRG is maintained through the codes of backbone classifications rather than national codes. This linkage defines the grouping features that are given to the national codes and that determine the assignment rules.

The Nordic Casemix Centre maintains the NCSP+ and ICD+ versions in a common platform called Maintenance of Basic Classifications (MBC) which is integrated into NordDRG Maintenance System (NDMS).

The MBC platform allows to deliver ICD+ and NCSP+ versions in one file which has four different tables:

  • dg – includes all national codes by countries and a mapping to ICD+ code
  • dg_plus – includes all ICD+ codes and information about countries using the respective codes
  • proc – includes all national codes by countries and a mapping to NCSP+ code
  • proc_plus – includes all NCSP+ codes and information about countries using the respective codes.

ICD+ and NCPS+ are updated annually.

The latest versions of ICD+ and NCSP+ can be found from links below. Earlier versions are available on demand (norddrg(at)nordcase.org).
